Tuan Lam is a poker professional who was born in Vietnam on January 1, 1966, but he did not learn how to play poker in the country where he was born. Just like some of the poker professionals that we know today, Tuan Lam also migrated to another country and that was where he became exposed to the game he now professionally plays.
Tuan Lam was only nineteen years old when he and his family migrated to Canada. In this country, he became employed as a general laborer for a metal firm. His spare time from work led him to learn how to play poker until such game made him realize that he did not want to go on working as a general laborer anymore. What he wanted to do was to stop playing poker as a hobby and concentrate on playing poker as a full-time profession.
Currently residing in Mississauga, Ontario, Tuan Lam's latest victory was when he placed second at the main event of the World Series of Poker in 2007. He was able to outlast a total of six thousand three hundred fifty eight poker players, but unfortunately, he was defeated by poker professional Jerry Yang. In spite of the fact that he was only a second placer, we don't think that he felt like he lost the game. He surely felt like a winner too after receiving the cash prize of US$4,840,981. He could not have earned such amount if he continued to work as a general laborer in a metal firm.
Prior to such participation in the World Series of Poker, Tuan Lam already joined a World Series of Poker event in 2005 wherein he became the seventy-eighth placer. In 2006, this poker professional once again tried his luck in one of the poker games conducted by the World Series of Poker, but he only placed forty-sixth. In these two poker games, Tuan Lam was able to generate poker winnings totaling to almost only US$20,000.
We are definitely sure that Tuan Lam is not regretting his decision of abandoning his work as a general laborer in order to play professional poker full-time. Perhaps, at first, he was thinking that doing general labor was better than playing poker. But after earning more than US$4,000,000 in a single poker game, wherein he was not even the first placer, he has for sure stopped complaining about his decision to change careers. To date, the earnings of this poker professional probably total to almost US$5,000,000.
Aside from live poker tournaments, Tuan Lam is also into playing online poker games. What's keeping this poker professional busy when he is not playing in live tournaments is playing Limit Hold'em games on the Internet.
Tuan Lam is also a family man who makes sure that he has time for his two children and his wife.
