WSOP Main Event Winners in 1980's

Let us take a look into a decade of the World Series of Poker. It is time for us to see who emerged victorious in the main event of the World Series of Poker in the 1980's.

Stu Ungar

Considered as one of poker world's bad boys, Stu Ungar was among those who achieved the elusive championship title in the World Series of Poker. Although a seriously good poker player, Stu Ungar is said to be even better in gin rummy. He only had to switch to poker because there is a bigger market there. He won in the World Series of Poker thrice, which he also did in Amarillo Slim's Super Bowl of Poker. What is so special about that? Well, he is the only one who had ever done that. Although an undeniably excellent poker player, many people do not admire him because of his lifestyle. He went broke and he was also hooked to drugs later in his life.

Johnny Chan

He is one of the two poker player who had won the most number of World Series of Poker bracelets, ten in all. The only other one is Doyle Brunson. So, you could just imagine how good he must be. Aside from his poker abilities, his appearances in movies and television shows also helped him be one of the household names in America.

Phil Hellmuth

Many poker fans dislike, or even hate Phil Hellmuth. The reason for this is his supersized ego. Add to that his childish tantrums. However, you simply cannot ignore his poker record, having won in the main event of World Series of Poker, nine WSOP bracelets, and his massive poker winnings. A lot of people believe that if not for his ego that is the size of Mt. Everest, he could very well be the best poker player in the land. Today, he is definitely the most sensational poker player.

Berry Johnson

Berry Johnson is in the Poker Hall of Fame, and there is no reason he should not be included in that list. Johnson is no stranger to World Series of Poker. He did not only win in the main event in 1986, he also placed highly in the other years.

These are only four of the players whose prowess was proven at the main event of WSOP. The 80's decade in WSOP history surely produced some of the most sensational players the world has ever seen.
